Grimmer Motors will stay open during the COVID-19 lockdowns and alert levels. We’re an essential service — here to keep Hamilton’s cars running, roadworthy, and safe, especially for anyone doing essential work. Check out what we’re doing to keep you and our crew protected.
What’s an essential business, anyway?
Had a few customers from places like Cambridge and Ngaruawahia ask lately — “what’s all this about ‘essential services’ then? Can I still get my Toyota Estima sorted?” Short answer: yeah, you can, as long as it’s needed to keep your vehicle on the road for something important. Essential businesses are the types that can’t really close, even in a crisis. They keep food on shelves, medicine available, and, yep, vehicles rolling.
So think supermarkets, Countdown by Mill St, pharmacies, fruit and vege places, your local BP on Te Rapa Rd, and car repair shops like ours here at Grimmer Motors. Hardware stores, dairies, rubbish collection, animal vets — all still need to function. If you drive a Nissan Serena ferrying staff to Waikato Hospital or you’re doing courier runs up and down State Highway 1 between Hamilton and Taupiri, your car’s gotta be safe. That’s where we come in.
Any business that keeps essential workers mobile — or helps get necessities out to people — is essential. That covers car servicing, hybrid repair, tyre fixes, the lot. Everyone’s relying on their wheels extra hard right now, with all the stop-start driving on Grey Street and those annoying potholes out Rototuna way.
What isn’t essential?
On the flip side, most of your fun stuff isn’t essential when lockdown hits. Sorry, but you can’t pop to the movies at Chartwell or get your hair done. Gyms, spas, the casino, even the bowling alley — all out. Same if you’re thinking about shopping at The Base for something non-urgent. No car cruises or drifting out by Morrinsville Raceway either.
Got a few drivers ask if their old Peugeot 307 can get a paint touch-up or vinyl wrap during these times — not essential, sorry! But if it’s a safety thing, WOF, or your check engine light’s giving you grief, we’re all over that. Doesn’t matter if you’re flogging your little Suzuki Swift through Dinsdale traffic or getting your Skoda Octavia ready for another school drop-off over in Chartwell — keeping folks moving is what matters right now.
How we’re running things
The whole Grimmer crew is focused on keeping you and your family safe, as well as our techs. We’re giving everything a solid clean, wearing gloves, keeping our distance when we can — but the service is the same as ever. You can still book in for urgent repairs or car service Hamilton-wide, whether it’s your Honda CR-V, a Ford Mondeo, or even one of those flash Lexus hybrids. If you’re stuck, just shout out. Our workshop sees it all, from flat batteries on foggy winter mornings to cooling issues in those hot, dry Hamilton summers. That unpredictable weather batters cars, so don’t wait if something feels off.
