Good news from the team here at Grimmer Motors — we’re stoked to be finalists in the Waikato Business Awards for Social and Environmental Sustainability. Figured I’d put this together for anyone popping in for their car service in Hamilton, or maybe stuck in Te Rapa traffic, wondering what all this means for you and your ride.

Doing Our Bit for the Environment

Honestly, just because you need to bring the car in for a WOF or the usual service doesn’t mean it should muck up the environment. We saw how stop-start driving on streets like Peachgrove Road or down Massey Street can chew through fuel, especially on those soggy winter mornings when you’re demisting the windscreen every five minutes. We wanted to make sure we’re not only fixing cars but also helping out our patch of NZ.

1,500 Native Trees Planted — Not Just Talking the Talk

Lately, we’ve donated heaps of native trees to Trees for Survival. Great organisation — they get schools from places like Cambridge and Ngāruawāhia hands-on with planting along riverbanks and in reserves. Plus, they’re teaching the next generation to actually look after the land, not just talk about it at school assembly.

Recycling Everything We Can

Here’s something a bit practical: whenever we pull out old batteries, stuffed alternators, or scrap metal from a late model Suzuki Swift or an older Toyota Avensis, we make sure it gets recycled properly. We even chuck all the proceeds from scrap metal back into buying more trees. Had a customer from Morrinsville the other day want to know what happens to her dead Prius hybrid battery — simple, gets stripped and the good bits go for proper recycling. Nothing gets chucked behind the shed.

All-In on Hybrids & Electric Diagnostics

With all the new tech rolling in — think Hyundai Ioniq, Nissan Leaf, and even the odd Audi e-tron — we’ve had to get sharp on hybrid repair and advanced diagnostics. Kiwi drivers are definitely seeing the benefits with all Hamilton’s red lights, roundabouts, and the odd pothole near Rototuna. Hybrids and electrics hold up well in stop-start city driving if you look after them, and our crew know what to look for beyond the basics.

Clean Workshop, Cleaner Cars

It’s not just what’s under the bonnet — we use some of the cleanest, low-impact cleaners in the workshop, inside the workshop and out. Doesn’t matter if it’s a tidy Mazda Axela or that big BMW X5 that just came in from Pirongia covered in dust. We use the good stuff, so no harsh residues get left behind or down the drains.

Awards night’s on tonight at Claudelands Arena, so wish us luck! In the meantime, if you want to chat more about how we do things, or you want to book your wagon in for a proper, trustworthy car service Hamilton style, just flick us a message or come down for a yarn at the shop.
