What is a Car Safely & Fluid Check?
If your vehicle was registered after the 1st of January 2000, it will only need a Warrant of Fitness once a year rather than every six months. For example, if you own a year 2000 onwards car you will only need to get your WOF once per year. Because of this many people get their WOF and Service done at the same time these days (once per year). This can often mean that the car is often not looked at properly at by an experienced mechanic for up to one year, in between WOF’s.
On average, cars can travel at least 10,000km to 15,000km in a year, leading to wear and tear on vital components and possible loss and deterioration of vital fluids. For this reason, many drivers will often choose to bring their car in for a 6 monthly Safety & Fluid Check (valued at $89 incl GST) for personal and family safety reasons, as well as to avoid expensive car repairs due to loss or deterioration of vital car fluids.
Similar to a Warrant of Fitness, the Safety Check aspect involves one of our talented and experienced mechanics inspecting your vehicle for problems that could affect its safety and lead to dangerous driving conditions. This keeps you and your family safe in between your annual Warrant of Fitness (WOF).
Another majorly important aspect is the Fluid Check. This makes sure that your cars vital fluid levels are correct, and lets you know the condition of these fluids. For example we can inspect the condition of your engine, transmission, wiper and cooling system fluids, plus measure the condition of your brake fluid. All of these fluids need to be in optimum condition and levels for your engine, transmission, wipers and brakes to operate correctly and safely.

What is inspected during a safety check?
- Tyres – Over time, your car’s tyre condition will degrade. Tread depth will also decrease, reducing your car’s traction while driving.
- Brakes – Correctly working brakes are vital to your car’s safety.
- Rust– Although allowed in certain areas, rust can develop and affect your car’s structural condition.
- Lights – Your brake lights, headlights, turn signals and all other vehicle lighting will be inspected to ensure it operates correctly.
- Windscreen – Your windscreen will be inspected for glazing, cracks and other issues that could affect its safety. The functionality and condition of your wipers will also be tested.
- Doors – We’ll inspect your doors to make sure they open and close properly.
- Safety belts – Torn or frayed safety belts can be unsafe in a crash. Our mechanics will inspect your safety belts and advise if there is any damage or issues.
- Airbags (if fitted) – If your Airbag/SRS light is on, there is an issue with your car’s airbags. We can inspect your airbags for issues that could affect the vehicle’s safety in a crash.
- Steering & suspension – Your steering and suspension systems will be examined by a mechanic. This can prevent issues that affect your car’s stability and steering.
- Exhaust and fuel system – There must be no leaks in your car’s exhaust and fuel systems. We’ll run a check on these systems to ensure they are working correctly and not leaking or producing excess emissions.

- Power Steering fluid
- Windscreen Washer fluid
What are the benefits of getting a safety check?
Keep Your Car Safe Between WOFs.
A lot of drivers will only bring their car to a mechanic once a year for a Warrant of Fitness. During 12 months, a lot of issues can go unnoticed. During a safety check, any issues affecting your car’s safety will be detected.
