Cambelts should be changed every 100,000km. When was yours last changed?
A cambelt (or timing belt) is designed to drive your valve train assembly. It keeps your engine in time with other engine components, stopping the valves and pistons from colliding with each other. If the cambelt is not replaced at regular service intervals it could cause serious damage to your car.
Because the cambelt is made of rubber, it can deteriorate over time and eventually break. If this happens, the engine can be severely damaged, as the valves will no longer be synchronized with the crankshaft, causing them to collide with the pistons. In most cases, an engine replacement is necessary if this happens.
Replacing your cambelt every 100,000 km will reduce the risk of it causing serious engine damage.

Signs of cambelt due for replacement:
Here are some signs that your cambelt may need to be replaced:
- High mileage: Most car manufacturers recommend replacing the cambelt at a certain mileage interval, typically around 100,000 km. If your car has reached this mileage without having the cambelt replaced, it may be time to replace it.
- Cracks or wear on the cambelt: The cambelt is made of rubber and can deteriorate over time, becoming brittle and cracked. If you can visually inspect the cambelt and see cracks or signs of wear, it’s probably time to replace it.
- Whining noises: If you hear a high-pitched whining noise coming from the front of the engine, it could be a sign that the cambelt is worn and needs to be replaced.
