One of the most acclaimed electric vehicles to be released as of recent is the Tesla Model 3. Tesla is known for their environmentally friendly cars which pair high end features with a commitment to all electric, zero emission running. Between the Tesla Model 3, S, X, and Y, the Model 3 is the most affordable option. It is a smaller, more compact version of the Model S and X, but offered at nearly half the price. If you have been thinking about purchasing one, here are some of the features to consider.

Why purchase a Tesla Model 3?

Autopilot

Like the other Tesla Models, one of the most renown Model 3 features is autopilot. Autopilot enables your car to steer, accelerate and brake automatically within its lane on its own. While this does not allow your car to drive autonomously, it makes driving on motorways nearly effortless. The vehicle utilizes motion sensors and cameras to be able to safely operate in autopilot.  Please note, not all auto pilot features the Tesla 3 has are currently allowed to operate in New Zealand.

Safety

One of the biggest features Tesla engineers worked to incorporate into the Model 3 was safety. There are a few design components implemented for this purpose. The metal is a combination of steel and aluminum which gives the vehicle incredible protection from impact. Even the glass roof can resist being crushed under impact four times the mass of the car. Additionally, the way the base and frame of the car is designed lowers the risk of rollovers.

Charging

The Model 3 also offers the rapid charge feature. This makes the charging time much quicker compared to typical electric vehicles. The charging time varies between charging methods and whether or not you are charging from empty to full or within the range of 20% – 80% (see a full break-down of charging times depending on method here). If it is not from empty to full, the charging time will be shorter; typically, at public charging locations, the time will not exceed 60 minutes. The model 3 also has a long range battery, meaning it can go further between charges.

Performance

If you are looking for a car with high performance abilities, the Model 3 is a top contender. This vehicle has integrated a couple of features to enhance the speed and handling in driving. In terms of acceleration, the Model 3 is able to go from 0-100 km/h in a remarkable 3.4 seconds. Some components of the design are made to enhance the aerodynamics and handling, making the top speed 261 km/h. Additionally, it has dual motor all wheel drive, controlling traction and torque in all weather conditions.
